Recap: Azure Hybrid and Multicloud Digital Event

Microsoft’s event on the 29th June2021 announced the GA of  Managed SQL on Azure Arc–enabled data services as well as some updates/replays on other Azure Arc and Azure Stack & Edge offerings.

This event was publicised by Microsoft just after Build and as I have said previously I am not sure why this separate event was required. Anyway apart from some teething troubles actually logging into the event which appeared to be not just confined to me, the main thrust of the event was focused on the GA of Azure SQL enabled by Azure Arc.

The service basically allows you to run SQL Managed Instances and Azure PostgreSQL both on-premises and in the cloud, with the same pricing structure as in Azure and because Microsoft are leveraging Azure Arc it provides a single pane of glass for easy management of the services regardless of whether they are in the cloud or on-premises. There was also an interesting case study and demo provided by the team at SKF which is also now available on the Microsoft Azure Arc site.

There was also a section presented by the hardware partners for Stack including Intel and Dell and some more information around Stack HCI and Edge.
